Mental Health Resources for Every Day

At Reboot, we’re on a mission to prioritize mental health, especially when navigating the inevitable highs and lows of entrepreneurship (or life in general). Our goal is to remind you that you’re not alone and provide guidance to tap into your inner resilience and become a better human and leader.

In this post, we offer a variety of resources to help you prioritize your well-being, take necessary breaks, connect with what truly matters to you, and reflect on mental models and questions to build awareness and recognize burnout.

Check in on your well-being.

Here are some posts with exercises and prompts regarding various ways to check in on your well-being.

  • The Wheel of Life: This exercise, which is quite well known as a coaching tool and has many forms, can help clarify priorities for goal-setting and allow you to plan so that your life is closer to your definition of balance.
  • Tracking Your Energy: How Full Is Your Tank: What is your sense of your inner fuel tank? When is it time to refuel?
  • What’s Your Practice?: Developing and tending to a practice gives you an opportunity to invite more of yourself into your inner conversation. Practice is a powerful tool to enter into and be in a relationship with this conversation so that you can become more self-aware or rather, aware of self.
  • The Four Pillars of Practice: The four pillars of any practice involve giving, receiving, integrating, and gratitude. In this post, we talk about ways to incorporate these aspects into your practice and hope that you make it your own to get the most out of whatever practice you show up for regularly.
  • Taking Joy Into Your Hands: Experiencing joy doesn’t make us disloyal to our pain. But a life focused solely on the various sufferings that grace our humanity leaves out the other even more juicy parts of a wholly-lived, soulful life.
  • For Female Leaders: Use Resentment as a Guide: To really grow as leaders, we have to be willing to sit in the empty space of facing our fears, of looking directly into the eyes of our demons. Resentment takes up a whole lot of space, but it’s also trying to tell us something that we should listen to.
Take a break.

Time off away from work and connecting with yourself again is crucial for your ability to show up consistently for yourself (first) and the work you do.

  • Are You Getting Enough Rest?: Rest and integration are two of the most important facets of powerful, sustainable leadership. Yet, it’s often the most looked over and under-prioritized among busy leaders. In this post, we’re sharing some thoughtful questions for evaluating how you give yourself the time and space to rest properly.
  • How to Take a Two-Month Sabbatical Every Year | The Tim Ferriss Show: How do you create space for real, meaningful rest to occur? In this conversation with Tim Ferriss, Jerry shares why implementing a sabbatical mindset can nourish our hearts and minds.
Supportive mental models & practices.

How we think about ourselves and our relationship to life, purpose, and work can shape how we orient ourselves to each of those things and impact how we travel through life.

  • Tune Into Your Somatic Self: The Three Breaths Exercise: How turning to your breath can work magic on your present state.
  • Chasing Purpose: How can you create a container for your life so that the content of your life can be lived in a way that is consistent with your values and your soul? How can we make our inner and outer expressions sync up, so we feel less divided and more alive?
  • How Do I Feel Worthy Enough?: Jerry shares lessons in power, privilege, and potential from ghosts, ancestors, and paper cranes.
  • Personal Records: In coaching, one of the facts that is always interesting to share with clients is that you can control two things in life: your choices and your actions. That’s it. In some ways, that should be relieving. In many ways, for some of us, it’s not so much relieving as it is anxiety-producing. Learning how to manage that space for ourselves is key to our own performance.
  • How Winners Measure Success: When we consider what it means for each of us individually to succeed, the whole winning-losing framework that we know and abide by falls apart. What if you asked yourself what you value most in life, and what winning at those things might mean? In this Medium post, Coach Jeff Riddle shares how moving + learning + reflection will get you across your own finish line.
Resources for finding ground, burnout, depression, and anxiety.

Meditations can bring our awareness inside of ourselves or to something external to us. Either area of focus can be handy exercises in the right moments, depending on whether we are spinning in our heads or need to come back to our center.

  • Building Resilience: A way to find some ground in your somatic self and be a path to return to your center any time it feels handy.
  • Feeling Unmotivated? Is Burnout Close?: If you find yourself at a place of weariness and overwhelm, we have some tips on how to navigate this space, find your bearings, and move forward with a sense of clarity.
  • How To Avoid Burnout: In this post we share our absolute best advice on how to navigate the startup world without losing yourself in the fire.
  • Dear Reboot: When You Find Yourself in a Toxic Workplace: Toxic work environments can stem from dysfunction and poor behavior, despite what aspirational values are touted on the walls of the company. Exploring what you’re bringing into the situation can help you understand what is in your power to change.
  • What to Read When You’re Burned Out: In this post, Team Reboot shares some of the books that have helped us to navigate our own burnout experiences.
Impactful (free!) email courses
  • 365 Days of Journaling: Journaling is one of the many powerful tools we encourage here at Reboot with our clients, both for themselves and for what gets shaken up and stirred during and in between coaching sessions. It’s a practice that many of us as coaches here rely on, and have done so for a long while. It is a practice that has helped each of us become who we are in the world. It is, indeed, medicine for the self. This 365-day course is designed to help you establish and maintain your own journaling practice. You’ll receive a daily email with a prompt or series of prompts each day. There is a cadence in the inquiries to help you establish a familiar rhythm of a daily check-in with yourself, as well as other prompts to provoke more self-reflection to serve as self-discovery and also in your practical world of work issues and relationships.
  • Navigating Uncertainty: Manage Fear, Embrace Change & Find Clarity: We have all experienced challenges and upheaval, sometimes many times over, throughout our personal and professional lives. These times of uncertainty may be sparked by what’s around us, or they may spring up from what’s inside of us. In this 30-day course, we will explore what it means to find your ground and manage fears when faced with struggles or feeling overwhelmed. Times of uncertainty are difficult, and they can help us step more fully into the leaders we long to be. Also included is a week of guided journaling to help you unpack, reflect on, and integrate what you learn.
  • Managing Your Psychology 101: Building Resilience, Setting Boundaries, Staying Whole: We created this 80-day course to help you own your mental resilience on the rollercoaster of life, work, and entrepreneurship. In this course, we’ll look at mental health, burnout, anxiety and depression, self-care, and mindfulness. We’ll give you tools so you can begin to unpack yourself: your emotional competence, body wisdom, and untapped joy.
