Reflections on the Art of Being Human at Work.

The End of Suffering Is Not the End of Pain What is my suffering doing, if I do not attend to it? How is it shaping the way I show up with others? Where is it narrowing my capacity to see clearly, to listen, to remain open?
The End of Suffering The end of suffering, then, is not a future achievement. It is a shift in relationship. Pain remains part of life. Loss remains part of love. But the belief that we are uniquely broken, uniquely punished, uniquely alone begins to dissolve.
Back to Basics: The Fundamental Elements of Being an Employee We must have cultures that work to integrate humanity and are guided by values. How can we hope to do that when we have companies that aren’t upfront with employees about the realities of performance and the expectations that come with a job?
Claiming Kinship: Listening to Our Stories of Belonging How often do we actually listen to each other? If we look at the strife and division in the world, the answer is painfully clear: not often enough.
Here For It Having a space to be honest with our suffering is a gem. Finding someone to share it with, someone who can hold it with grace is a boon in life. Such connections are healing. Just our being able to bear witness not only to our own suffering, but the stories others hold is a healing bridge.
Go Ask A Boy About His Heart, and Keep Asking We all struggle under the burden of patriarchy. Where are the spaces boys and men have to talk about what’s in their heart?
Shifting for the Better We all depend on each other in one way or another. This holds true for those in the nucleus of our lives and families, and those in widening circles from there--neighbors, friendships, business relationships.
The Practice Unless you grow, your business won’t grow. When you grow as a human, your leadership changes. When you grow, you free up those around you to grow as well, including your team.
Welcoming In Learning the ways of inclusion is part and parcel of becoming an authentic leader. You can’t have one without the other. Leadership without inclusion is oppression under a different guise.
Opening Doors Think back over the course of your life, how many people in your life opened doors for you? How many doors have you opened for others? How often have you supported without taking credit?
